Key Responsibilities
* Spearhead city-level interventions for the Urban Development Programme, driving sustainable waste management solutions and fostering strong relationships with local government bodies and stakeholders.
* Architect and implement effective waste containment and collection systems, enhancing the capacity of waste workers and promoting behaviour change among community members.
* Lead community-based resource recovery and recycling initiatives, expanding existing systems and developing new ones to promote a culture of sustainability.
* Foster collaborative partnerships with municipal authorities, waste generators, and informal waste actors to bridge gaps in the waste management ecosystem.
* Develop and execute comprehensive strategies to engage with local stakeholders, ensuring effective communication and coordination throughout the project lifecycle.
* Manage and sustain local collection, segregation, and recycling practices, ensuring the long-term viability of waste management systems.
* Drive community-level waste infrastructure development, strengthening existing systems and identifying opportunities for growth and improvement.
* Coordinate with local government bodies to advocate for inclusive, pro-poor urban planning and governance, promoting sustainable and resilient urban development.
* Monitor and evaluate project progress, identifying areas for improvement and implementing data-driven solutions to optimize waste management outcomes.
* Empower local communities to take ownership of waste management practices, promoting education and awareness initiatives to drive behaviour change and adoption of sustainable practices.
Requirements
Experience
At least 5 years
Education
- Master of Development Studies (MDS)
- Master’s degree in Environmental Management/Science/Engineering/ Urban planning/ Development studies/ Development communication or related discipline
Additional Requirements
- Minimum 5 years working experience with NGOs or international development organizations in areas of waste management, environmental resilience, circular economy and urban WASH
- Experience of working with the local government institutions
- Demonstrated ability to work in development projects
- Knowledge of the legal and institutional context and frameworks for environmental policy, circular economy, and sustainability issues in Bangladesh
- Project implementation and capacity building competencies
- Strong collaborative leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Problem-solving mindset
