Key Responsibilities
* Drive the development and implementation of occupational health and safety strategies to improve working conditions in the building materials production sector.
* Collaborate with project stakeholders to design and introduce standardized work instructions, guidelines, and tools for occupational safety, health protection, and social protection measures.
* Deliver expert training and advisory services to owners, plant managers, and supervisory staff on health and safety best practices in the workplace.
* Architect and support the development of company qualification measures for employees in environmentally friendly building materials production.
* Lead the identification of day-to-day problems and develop innovative solutions to enhance working conditions and promote equal access for women and people with disabilities.
* Manage and implement project initiatives to promote sustainable and climate-resilient urban development, healthier working conditions, and responsible use of natural resources.
* Provide strategic guidance to supervisors on project planning, steering, and monitoring to ensure alignment with GIZ rules and regulations.
* Foster partnerships with government institutions, testing bodies, professional associations, and industry representatives to drive the sustainable transition of the construction sector in Bangladesh.
* Drive the development of tailored solutions to improve the political framework, building materials quality, and construction industry practices in an environmentally and socially responsible manner.
* Make informed decisions that drive short-term results within the project area, with a focus on long-term impact and sustainability.
Requirements
Skills
In-depth knowledge in occupational health and safety including relevant laws and regulations in BangladeshUnderstanding of the specific working conditions in the construction sector including the building material production, their impacts and risksIn-depth knowledge and understanding of procedures related to the setting of standards, establishing regulations and quality assuranceUnderstanding of approaches aiming at sustainable transition in the construction sectorStrong organizational, planning and self-management competenciesAbility to deal with multiple tasks simultaneously, solve problems, meet deadlines and maintain a high quality of workAbility to work well under pressure and must be a strong team playerAbility to work in an intercultural environmentExcellent interpersonal and communication skills (both oral and written)Excellent presentation skillsFluency in English and Bangla is essential
Education
- Masters
- Master’s degree in Public Health, Public Administration, Environmental Sciences, Civil / Industrial Engineering, or any other closely relevant subject under Social Science discipline.
- Advanced technical training or internationally recognized certification (e.g., NEBOSH, IOSH, or OSHA) in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) or Environmental Health and Safety (EHS)
Additional
- 5 years of relevant occupational experience related to the area of responsibility as outlined is required
- Working experience in a strategic and technical advisory role is essential
- Experience in maintaining strategic partnerships with different stakeholders and development partners is important
